Today, the Customs Administration celebrated its 30th Anniversary.

Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia Dimitar Kovacevski, Finance Minister Fatmir Besimi, high government officials, the Archbishop of Ohrid and Macedonia Stefan, representatives of diplomatic and consular missions, state institutions, former directors of the Customs Administration, representatives of the business community and other associates attended the ceremony. Guest of honour was the President of the Republic of North Macedonia Stevo Pendarovski.

" The Customs Administration and the customs officers are one of the first contacts with our country, and that is why we recognize the set norms for professional customs operation as an important precondition for promotion of the international trade of our country” noted the President of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia, Dimitar Kovachevski.

He pointed out that "Digitalization as a process in the Customs Administration is part of the digital transformation of society, which promotes efficiency, but also increases the citizens’ trust and the business sector in the institutions. It is a key tool for good and transparent operations." 

Finance Minister, Mr. Fatmir Besimi saluted the successful cooperation, pointing out that "The Customs Administration plays a major role in trade facilitation through shortened, streamlined and digitalized procedures, which contributes to the doing business environment as well. In addition, it is in charge of efficient collection of revenues, which, at the same time, reflects on the budget revenues as well.

„ Founded in the traditional beginnings of independence, with huge steps in development, the Customs Administration has grown into a real service to the citizens, the business community and the state. Today it is a modern, technologically advanced service and a change leader in the region, alongside Customs services of the countries of the European Union. Constantly facing the challenge - to maintain a balance between accelerating cross-border trade and at the same time apply effective measures and controls to protect the health, safety and financial interests of the state“, noted the Director General of the Customs Administration Mr. Slavica Kutirov.  In her address, Customs Director General recalled on the achieved results, the reforms realized and most important events that marked these thirty years.

Congratulations for the successful thirty years of work were sent by the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization, Kunio Mikuria, and the Director General of the Directorate General for Taxation and Customs Union of the European Commission (DG TAXUD), Thomas Gerasimos, via video messages.

By awarding plaques with a charter, the Director General of the Customs Administration expressed her gratitude to the collaborators and partners for their support over the past 30 years. Plaques were awarded to: the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of North Macedonia, Association of Chambers of Commerce of Macedonia, Chamber of Commerce of North-West Macedonia, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Interior, HM Revenue and Customs of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Embassy of the United States of America and the Delegation of the European Union.

At the end of the ceremony, the attendees had the opportunity to see a demonstration with the control equipment used in the daily customs operations and to get acquainted with the role of Customs in protecting the society.
