Today (28th December 2021), Finance Minister Fatmir Besimi paid a working visit to the Customs Administration of the Republic of North Macedonia.

Customs Director General Slavica Kutirov informed the Minister of Finance about the completed and ongoing projects arising from the Government program, emphasizing the activities of the Customs Administration in dealing with the shadow economy, which are also part of the activities of the "Bring Color to the Gray Economy" campaign, implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance. Director General Kutirov informed about the series of measures taken by the Customs Administration to simplify and facilitate customs procedures, aimed at sustaining and promoting cross-border trade.

Among the topics of discussion were the status and activities related to the project for introduction of the Track & Trace system for monitoring excise products, which is expected to contribute to better control of excise goods throughout the country. The Minister of Finance was also briefed on the status of implementation of projects that are part of the "Open Balkans" initiative, such as mutual recognition of Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) authorisations and joint border controls (One Stop Shop) with the Republic of Serbia and the Republic. Albania. Tackling corruption as the biggest challenge for the society, but also for the Customs Administration was part of the discussion at the meeting, as well as the measures taken to introduce a systemic solution and improve the control of the international transport of goods and passengers.

The Minister and the Director General agreed that the successes in the work are not accidental but the result of many years of focused and team work, emphasizing the commitment to further successful cooperation in order to simplify customs procedures, increase the competitiveness of the domestic economy and reduce economic costs for the operators.
