Several current issues in the area of customs operations and requirements of the business community were discussed at today’s meeting of the Advisory Council that operates within the Customs Administration.

The draft amendments to the Law on Representation Activities in Customs Procedures were presented to the representatives of the business community. These amendments provide for several facilitations in the procedure for obtaining a license for a customs representative and in the overall operation of the customs representatives.

The Macedonian Chambers of Commerce MCC proposed certain amendments to the Customs Law and these proposals were considered in a constructive debate. Also, the representatives of the Advisory Council were informed about the latest amendments in the customs legislation related to the Law on Misdemeanors which significantly reduced the fines for customs misdemeanors, implemented a legal principle of proportionality, introduced fines different range of fines instead of the previous fixed amount, systematized the customs misdemeanors in 2 basic groups - severe misdemeanors (which have fiscal implications, i.e. related to avoiding customs control and supervision and / or import duties evasion) and minor misdemeanors (which are related to skipping deadlines or failing to meet obligations that are largely without fiscal implications) and so on.

During the meeting, the current status of the project for introduction of the new One-Stop Shop system was presented, as well as the new initiatives for trade facilitation in accordance with the new rules for the origin of goods.
