During the past two weeks, the customs officers prevented several attempts for smuggling of various goods, seizing counterfeits, seed material, toll-readers, used tools, license plates, clothes, foreign cash and cigarettes.

The following goods were seized:

Goods suspected of infringing intellectual property rights

- 1,488 pairs of women's shoes bearing logo of protected trademarks, found during inspection of a Macedonian registered truck loaded with goods originating in China, destined for an importer from Kosovo, declared for entrance at the border crossing point Bogorodica. The products were temporarily seized for suspected violation of intellectual property rights and in accordance with the legal provisions, a procedure will be initiated to determine their authenticity.

The market value of the suspected products is estimated at about 4.5 million denars if sold as originals.

Seed material

 - 195 bags of 1.000 seeds for various vegetable crops (tomatoes, cucumbers, melons and peppers), worth about 992 thousand denars, found during inspection of a Turkish bus traveling from Istanbul to Gostivar, driven by a Turkish citizen, declared for entrance into the country at the border crossing point Bogorodica. The undeclared goods, found in a cardboard box placed under the co-driver's seat, were seized, and criminal charges will be brought against the driver.

Tools, appliances, toll-plates and license plates

- 80 toll readers for freight vehicles, detected during control of a Bulgarian registered truck, driven by a Macedonian citizen, declared for entrance at the border crossing point Novo Selo. The undeclared goods, found on the beds in the cabin of the vehicle, were seized and a misdemeanor procedure will be initiated against the driver.

- 7 used electric tools and appliances (hilt, screwdriver, lawn mower, cleaning machine, aggregate and car washing machine) and 1 new heating body, found during inspection of a Swiss registered  van, driven by a Macedonian citizen and declared for entrance at the border crossing point Tabanovce Motorway. The undeclared goods found in the boot of the vehicle were seized and a misdemeanor procedure was initiated against the driver.

- 1 set of Bulgarian license plates and a traffic license,found during control of a Bulgarian car, driven by a Macedonian citizen, declared for exit from the country at the border crossing point Delchevo. The registration plates and the license, found in the boot of the vehicle belonged to a Ford Fusion passenger vehicle, which was temporarily admitted into the Republic of Macedonia and which, according to the driver's statement, was sold to a person from Kochani due to a defect. He was to return the registration plates to de-register the vehicle in Bulgaria. Asked by the customs officers, the driver replied that he did not customs cleared for import, for which he gave a official statement in writing. This way, the vehicle was released for free circulation without having been previously placed in a prescribed customs procedure and without paying import duties. A misdemeanor procedure will be initiated against the driver.

Foreign currency

- 3.800 Swiss Francs and 850 Euros, found during a personal search of a Macedonian citizen, driving a Swiss registered car, declared for exit from the country at the border crossing point Tabanovce Motorway. The passenger reported that he was carrying about 2,000 Euros with him, but during a personal search, in his trousers’  pocket, the customs officer found 2,850 euros and 3,800 Swiss Francs, for which he did not have a document of origin. Pursuant the legal provisions, 2,000 Euros were returned to him as an amount that a resident can freely take out from the country, and a misdemeanor procedure was initiated for the committed misdemeanor.

Clothing

- 103 pieces of clothing (children's sets, tracksuits, blouses and trousers), found during control of a Macedonian registered truck loaded with furniture originating in Turkey, intended for an importer from Germany, declared for entrance into the country at the border crossing point Dojran. The undeclared goods, found behind the co-driver's seat and under the bed in the cabin of the vehicle, were seized, and misdemeanor procedure will be initiated against the driver, a Macedonian citizen.

Cigarettes

- 40 cartons of Pall Mall, Rothmans and Rodeo cigarettes with Macedonian excise stamps, found at the Alexander the Great Airport in Skopje, during control of the checked baggage of a Macedonian citizen who intended to fly by flight to London. The undeclared cigarettes were seized and a misdemeanor procedure was initiated against the passenger.
