On 9th October 2018, the Customs Administration of the Republic of Macedonia organized an event with the American Chamber of Commerce to promote the concept of Authorized Economic Operator, initiated and supported by the American Chamber of Commerce.

There were presentations about the possibilities to apply the concept and the participants had the opportunity to ask specific questions for more detailed information.

The Director General of the Customs Administration, Mr. Gjoko Tanasoski delivered a presentation on the current implementation of the Authorized Economic Operator,  addressing the challenges and experiences so far, as well as the benefits from its application.

The event was used to present the basic principles of the Customs Administration concerning the promotion of trade facilitation, bearing in mind the trend of trade globalization, which is manifested by economic relations between the countries and the inter-dependence of the economies.

The concept of Authorized Economic Operator is one of the instruments for trade facilitation and with the latest amendments to the Customs Law, which concern, inter alia, the criteria for granting Authorized Economic Operator Certificate, the national legislation has been fully harmonized with the corresponding AEO provisions of the EU Customs Code. The success of the AEO concept depends on the interest of companies to apply it, which the Customs Administration strongly encourages, as well as on the joint future steps to be taken
