Under the project "Support for Trade Facilitation between the CEFTA Parties", today (19th September 2018) in Skopje, a kick-off event was organized marking the start of the Pilot Project for Mutual Recognition of the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Status of the Republic of Macedonia, supported by the German Development Cooperation (GIZ).

The Customs Administration of the Republic of Macedonia is honoured to participate in the pilot project for mutual recognition of the AEO certificates within the CEFTA region together with the Customs Administrations of the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Moldova. The activities of the project for the Customs Administration of the Republic of Macedonia will take place until 21st September 2018 and cover analysis of the national legislation related to the AEO status, the organizational structure of the Customs Administration and the existing procedures for granting and supervision of granted certificates. The kick–off meeting was attended by high representatives of CEFTA and DG TAXUD, Mr. Emir Jikic - Director of the CEFTA Secretariat and Mr. Marcel Negers - representative of the DG TAXUD (Directorate-General for Customs and Taxation of the European Commission).

Customs Director General, Mr. Gjoko Tanasoski noted in his address that the participation in this pilot project is the result of great preparations and workshops in which the Customs Administration of the Republic of Macedonia participated. The beginnings of the project implementation of the project were agreed at the first workshop held in November 2017 in Belgrade. Then, preconditions for a successful pilot project were set in Tirana in March 2018, and in July 2018, the actual steps were agreed and the CEFTA parties to participate in the pilot project were selected in Budva.

Through this pilot project, directly monitored by representatives of the European Union, it is expected to further develop and promote the concept of Authorized Economic Operator, being top priority of the Multi-Annual Regional Economic Integration Action Plan in the Western Balkans and grounds for signing Agreements on mutual recognition of AEO in the CEFTA parties.
