Last week, the customs officers detected several attempts for smuggling of various goods, seizing foreign currency, sporting rifles, leather belts, truck spare parts, cigarettes and counterfeits

The following was seized:

Foreign currency

- 16.080 British Pounds, detected by a Customs Mobile Team, during control of a Macedonian registered truck, driven by a Macedonian national, declared for entrance at the border crossing Tabanovce Motorway. A bag with 25,000 British pounds was found inside a refrigerator in the driver’s cab.  According to the regulations, 8,920 British pounds (as equivalent amount to 10,000 Euros) were returned to the driver, as an amount that can freely be taken into the country. For the committed foreign currency offense, a request for initiation of a misdemeanor procedure was filed.

Goods suspected of infringing intellectual property rights
- 1,653 pieces of clothing (tracksuits, jackets, blouses, shirts, jeans, leggings, pajamas and other), 118 wallets and 23 women's bags bearing logo of protected trademarks, detected in two separate cases, during control of goods originating in Turkey, declared for import customs clearance at the Customs Office Skopje 1.
In the first case, during the control of goods destined for an importer from Tetovo, the customs officers found 1,032 pieces of clothes (tracksuits, blouses, shirts, jeans, leggings, pajamas, etc.) and 20 women's bags bearing logo of protected trademarks, while in the second case, they found 621 pieces of clothes (blouses, children's kits, jeans and jeans), 118 wallets and 3 women's bags bearing logo of protected trademarks during control of goods destined for an importer from Strumica.
In both cases, due to suspicion that the products violate intellectual property rights, they were seized and in accordance with the regulations, procedures to establish their authenticity will be initiated.

Sports weapons
- 3 pieces of sporting guns, replicas of Smith & Wesson, H & K and A & K, detected by a Customs Mobile Teams, during inspection of a Macedonian bus traveling on a regular line Italy - Macedonia, declared for entrance at the border crossing point Tabanovce Motorway. The guns were found in a cardboard box, placed in the lower part of the toilet of the bus. The driver - Macedonian national, claimed that he received it as a box with used clothes. The guns were seized and a request for initiation of a misdemeanor procedure was filed against the driver.

Cigarettes
- 16 cartons of cigarettes without excise stamps, found during control of a Macedonian bus, declared for entrance at the border crossing point Medzitlija. The cigarettes were found in two plastic bags and two backpacks placed in the hand luggage area located above the seats, and on one of the seats of the bus. The undeclared cigarettes were seized, and a misdemeanor procedure will be initiated against the owner, a Macedonian citizen- passenger on the bus.

Other goods
- 144 pieces of leather belts, found during control of a Macedonian registered car, driven by a Macedonian national, declared for entrance at the border crossing point Bogorodica. The undeclared belts, found in several bags placed in the boot and in the space between the front and rear seats, have been seized, and an appropriate procedure will be initiated against the driver.

- 2 truck turbines, detected during control of a Macedonian truck, driven by a Macedonian national, declared for entrance at the border crossing Jazince. The undeclared turbines, found in the cabin, behind the co-driver's seat, were seized, and misdemeanor charges were filed against the driver.
