Fraud

Two attempts for import duty evasion by incorrect declaration of origin of goods were foiled at the Customs Office Gevgelija. The subsequently calculated import duties amount nearly 35 thousand denars.

In the first case, an importer from Skopje declared for import clearance plastic and metal frames for glasses, whereby he submitted invoices with a statement of origin in order to obtain preferential status of the goods and customs clearance with a rate of duty of 0%. Due to suspicion of the accuracy of the declared origin of the goods, the invoices were sent for verification to the Customs Administration of Greece, whereby a reply was received that the exporting company did not submit documents proving the preferential origin of the products, thus not confirming the authenticity of the statement of origin of the goods.

Based on the received response, additional import duties amounting to 11 thousand Denars were calculated, and against the importer, the Customs Office Gevgelija prepared a Report concerning false declaration of origin of goods and a Request for final determination of data in the SAD and calculated additional customs debt and conducted misdemeanor procedure with a mandatory fine.

In the second case, a natural person from Kavadarci declared an for import clearance a second-hand passenger vehicle and submitted an invoice with a declaration of origin for the purpose of obtaining a preferential status of the goods and customs clearance with a duty rate of 0%. Due to suspicion of the accuracy of the declared origin of the goods, the invoice was sent to the Customs Administration of Germany, whereby a reply was received that the exporter had not submited documents proving the preferential origin of the vehicle, thus not confirming the authenticity of the statement of origin stated in the invoice.

Based on the response received, additional import duties amounting to MKD 24 thousand were calculated, and against the importer the Customs Office Gevgelija prepared a Report concerning false declaration of Origin and a Request for final determination of data in the SAD and calculated  additional customs debt and conducted a misdemeanor procedure with a mandatort fine..
