On the occasion of the 26th January – the International Customs Day, this year celebrated under the slogan “SMART borders for seamless Trade, Travel and Transport” encouraging WCO Members to look at how they can best ensure the swift and smooth cross-border movement of goods, people and means of transport.

A ceremony for promotion of the authorized economic operator took place today in the Government of the Republic of Macedonia. The President of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, Zoran Zaev and the Director General of the Customs Administration of the Republic of Macedonia, Gjoko Tanasoski, presented the first certificate for authorized economic operator to the renowned domestic company Evropa AD Skopje.

During the last week of 2018 and the New Year's and Christmas holidays, the customs officers detected several attempts for smuggling of various goods, temporarily seizing a motorcycle, scooter, automobile spare parts, photocopier, gas pistol, substances for potency, alcoholic beverages, tools , electric cables, apparel, laptops and counterfeits.

Starting this year, all customs declarations and excise documents will be processed electronically. This was noted today during the visit of the Finance Minister Dragan Tevdovski to the Customs Administration. The use of the Customs Declaration Processing System will start in the beginning of February in 11 Pilot Customs Offices, and from by mid-year it will be put in function at all customs offices in the country.

On 18th December 2018, during search of the hand luggage of a Turkish citizen that arrived at the International Airport Skopje- entrance section, the customs officers found undeclared gold jewelry.
