Representatives of the Customs Administration from the Sector for Control and Investigations and Customs Director General Sugareski, hosted today a meeting with representatives of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. The objective of the meeting was to discuss the activities and obligations arising from the establishment of a National Airport Interagency Group at the Skopje International Airport.

At the invitation of Customs Director General Sugareski, the Public Prosecutor Ljubomir Joveski visited the Customs Administration today. Director General and the Public Prosecutor discussed ways to strengthen the joint efforts for investigation and prosecution, capacity building and coordination of the competent authorities.

The sniffer dogs visited the Customs Administration today together with their handlers.

The 5 dogs Jerry, Baron, Pimbo, Aron and Ruff have been part of the Customs Administration since 2000 and are of particular importance because they are used to protect borders and prevent illicit transport of narcotics. They have participated in several actions, 90% of which have been successful.

This year Jerry is retiring, and the mobile teams unit of the Customs Administration will be joined by 4 new dogs, donation from Germany. These 9-month-old dogs are specially trained to detect specific substances.

The Director General of the Customs Administration and representatives of the Control and Investigation Sector expressed their support for the customs officers from the mobile team responsible for the drug sniffing dogs. This unit in the Customs Administration is of particular importance in the fight against crimes and misdemeanors.

The Director General of the Customs Administration, Goran Sugareski met today with the Minister of Interior Oliver Spasovski. The purpose of the meeting was to promote the cooperation and the processes that the Customs Administration has with all institutions with which it cooperates as stipulated under the law.

Joint activities and the manner of cooperation, collaboration at border crossings and along the border line, cross-border traffic control, one-stop control, cooperation to prevent and combat criminal activities and offenses, were the topic of today's meeting between Interior Minister Oliver Spasovski and Customs Director General Goran Sugareski.

"The good inter-institutional cooperation so far will continue in terms of future ways to effectively take immediate joint activities to protect the state border of the Republic of North Macedonia, strengthen anti-corruption activities, prevent and detect organized and other types of crime, facilitae and accelerate the movement of goods and passengers and more efficient use of available resources, "said Sugareski.

The Minister reiterated the focus on fight against crime and corruption with the creation of the National Center for Fight against Corruption based in the Ministry of Interior, which includes all institutions with powers of prosecution and investigation to combat corruption, which, of course, includes the Customs Administration.

„"Our institutions, which stand side by side in their competencies and legal obligations in the fight against corruption and organized crime, must continue their activities intensively and the results of that fight will be the results of our country as a whole," said Minister Spasovski.

It was pointed out that the Interior Ministry and the Customs Administration will continue to create modern solutions and techniques that exclude the human factor, such as the planned equipping of all border crossings for police and customs, with the so-called "Body cameras" and a software solution that will monitor the work of employees.

Both sides emphasized that a successful fight against organized crime and corruption requires stronger cooperation with the Public Prosecutor's Office, which is expected to reach a higher level.

The progress of the six major future projects of permanent cooperation between the Ministry of Interior and the Customs Administration was also discussed at the meeting in order to ensure their continuous successful implementation.

Today, 29th January 2021, Customs Director General Goran Sugareski, visited the Regional Customs House Gevgelija. The purpose of this visit was for the Director to get acquainted with the capacities of the Customs House, the border crossing point Bogorodica and the Customs Office Gevgelija - for clearance of goods and to discuss the current and planned projects.
 
Director General Sugareski had a meeting with the heads of the customs offices and the customs officers from all the offices from Customs House Gevgelija and with the Head of the Customs House Ms.Tanja Ilijoska.
