NATO Exercise “NORTH MACEDONIA 2021”, co-organised by NATO’s Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC) and the Crisis Management Centre of North Macedonia is being conducted as of today – 20th to 23 September 2021 in the area of Ohrid and Struga, North Macedonia.

The exercise shall include activities addressing several areas such as natural disasters, organized crime, illegal migration, rescue and assistance to citizens, which is an excellent grounds for developing capacities and capabilities for building regional approach and strategies to adequately counter, suppress criminal acts and take concrete measures of action. Senior representatives of the diplomatic corps in the country attended the first day of the exercise.

Almost 700 representatives from 28 NATO Member States and partners and several international organizations will participate in the exercise. It will enable crisis response teams, but also planners and assessors to develop and practice search and rescue activities in urban areas, but also on water and in mountains, exercises of emergency medical teams, but also activities of teams for detection and identification of chemical, biological and radiological agents, as well as activities related to misinformation. As part of the exercise, a two-day scientific VIP symposium will be organized with the participation of senior representatives of NATO, its Member States, partner countries, international organizations and the intelligence sector.

For the Customs Administration, the participation in an exercise of this type is of particular importance and an opportunity to develop common expertise and strengthen relations with these institutions at an even deeper level.
