The Customs Administration of the Republic of Macedonia is hosting the 4th Meeting of the Working Group for Implementation of the Framework Agreement on Cooperation in Facilitating Customs Clearance among the Chinese, Hungarian, Serbian and Macedonian Customs, held on 5-6 September 2018 in Skopje .

The agreement was signed in Belgrade on 17.12.2014 within the 3rd Summit of the leaders of China and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, by taking into consideration that the Contracting Parties are significant trading partners and that for the growth of the trade at bilateral level it is necessary to ensure strengthening of cooperation between the customs authorities.

The main objective of this Agreement is closer cooperation in facilitating customs procedures, facilitating trade, and improving trade relations and trade growth between the Contracting Parties by applying international standards and best practices, in particular with regard to customs control, mutual administrative assistance, information exchange and use of information technologies.

The Working Group holds annual meetings to discuss the progress in realization of the goals of the Framework Agreement. So far, 3 meetings have been held, the first in Shanghai, China (March 2015), the second in Budapest, Hungary (June 2016) and the last one in Belgrade, Serbia (September 15, 2017).

At this meeting, attended by delegations of all customs services - Contracting Parties (China, Hungary, Serbia and Macedonia) the delegates discussed the current cooperation and the achieved results. A cooperation plan for 2018/2019 will be proposed and considered with special focus on the cooperation with Serbian Customs in the area of joint border controls, as well as the Pilot project for Authorized Economic Operator within the CEFTA.

In addition, the delegations are also discussing the initiative for the establishment of a coordinating mechanism for customs clearance  among China and the countries of the 16 + 1 Initiative" (China, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia) and the opportunities to strengthen cooperation between the business community and the Customs.
