Last week, the customs officers prevented an attempt for illegal entry of passengers and several attempts for smuggling various goods, seizing foreign currencies, olive oil, church supplies, perfumes, cigarettes, computer spare parts, water pumps and counterfeits.

The following goods were seized:

Foreign currencies

- 13,000 British pounds, discovered at the International Airport Skopje, during inspection of the luggage of a Kosovo national who arrived from London. The customs officers found undeclared 15,000 British pounds and 7,900 euros in his suitcase. 7,900 euros and 2,000 British pounds, equivalent to 10,000 euros, were returned to the owner, as an amount that can be freely brought into the country. Misdemeanor procedure will be initiated for the committed misdemeanor.

Olive oil, church supplies and perfumes

- 95 liters of olive oil, 110 church cups, 220 pieces of scented incense, 13 kg of scented water, 700 decorative bracelets, 8 kg of wick and 2 kg of cork for candles, found during control of a Bosnian truck driven by a Bosnian citizen, declared for entrance into the country at the border crossing point Dojran. The undeclared goods, found in several boxes and bags, placed on the bed and behind the seats in the cabin of the vehicle, have been seized, and an appropriate procedure will be initiated against the driver.

- 160 pieces of 50 ml perfumes, found during control of a Macedonian registered car, driven by a Macedonian citizen, declared for entrance at the border crossing point Bogorodica. The undeclared perfumes, found in two handbags, placed in the boot of the vehicle, were seized and a misdemeanor procedure will be initiated against the driver.

Cigarettes

- 25 boxes of cigarettes with Macedonian excise stamps, found at the international airport Skopje, during inspection of the luggage of a Macedonian citizen who intended to depart to Gothenburg. The undeclared cigarettes were seized, and a misdemeanor procedure will be initiated against the passenger.

Computer parts and Water Pumps

- 8 graphics cards and 1 motherboard, detected at the international airport Skopje, during inspection of the luggage of a Macedonian citizen who arrived from Copenhagen. The undeclared goods were seized, and a misdemeanor procedure will be initiated against the passenger.

- 10 water pumps detected by the mobile customs teams, during inspection of a Macedonian car, driven by a Macedonian citizen, declared for entrance at the border crossing point Blace. The undeclared goods, found in a plastic crate placed in the boot of the car, were seized, and a request for initiation of a misdemeanor procedure will be filed against the driver.

Goods suspected of infringing intellectual property rights

- 468 perfumes, 220 lotions, 18 hand bags and 2 sets of bags bearing logo of a protected trademark, found during inspection of goods originating in the United States of America, intended for an importer from Skopje, declared for import clearance at the Customs Office Struga. Due to suspicion that the products violate intellectual property rights, they were temporarily detained, and in accordance with the law, a procedure will be initiated to verify their authenticity. The market value of the suspected products is estimated at nearly 750 thousand denars if sold as originals.

In addition, the customs officers also found 4 new tires for a passenger car and 1 barbeque grill, which were not included in the customs declaration, for which a misdemeanor procedure will be initiated against the importer.

- 1 motor vehicle diagnostic device bearing logo of protected trademark, detected at the Customs Office Airport Skopje - Section for customs clearance, during inspection of a DHL shipment from Singapore, intended for an individual from Kosovo. Due to suspicion that the device violates intellectual property rights, it was temporarily detained for verification of its authenticity.

Migrants

The customs officers at the border crossing point Bogorodica prevented an attempt for illegal entry of 8 passengers. The morning on 9th March 2018 a Bulgarian minibus transporting 3 passengers, driven by a Bulgarian citizen, arrived at border crossing point. During the preliminary examination of the minibus, the customs officers noticed that the roof structure has been tampered with. During the detailed inspection, they found an additional constructed space under the roof, where 8 illegal passengers were found without identification documents. According to the driver's statement, the vehicle was taken from Athens and was supposed to transport it to Western Europe, and that he did not know that there were people hidden in the vehicle. The case has been handed over to the Police at the border crossing point for further action.
