Last month, the customs officers detected a customs fraud, three migrants, as well as several attempts for smuggling various goods, including gold jewellery, firearm ammunition, watches, watch straps, cigarettes, coffee, clothing, truck spare parts, chainsaws, audio equipment and counterfeits.

The following was seized:

Gold jewelry

- 266 grams gold jewelry, detected by a mobile customs teams, during control of a Turkish bus traveling from Istanbul to Gostivar at the border crossing point Bogorodica, entrance section. In a suitcase placed in the boot area of the bus and in a handbag in the luggage compartment above the seats the inspectors found 1 gold necklace, 1 gold bracelet and 15 gold necklaces with pendants. The undeclared jewelry was impounded and appropriate actions will be taken against the owner, a Turkish citizen, passenger on the bus.

Ammunition for firearms and watches

- 5 pieces of ammunition, 36 watches and 14 watch straps, detected by a mobile customs team, during control of a Macedonian registered car driven by a Macedonian national at the border crossing point Blace, entrance section. The ammunition was found in the compartment under the armrest between the front seats, while the watches and straps were found in a handbag, in the door compartments and in the drawer under the driver's seat. The ammunition was handed over to the Police at the border crossing point, while the watches and straps were impounded and the driver will be charged with misdemeanor charges.

Coffee and cigarettes

- 4000 Nespresso capsules for coffee machine (about 34 kg), found during control of an empty Bosnian registered truck driven by a Serbian national at the border crossing point Dojran, entrance section. The undeclared products, found on the upper bed and behind the driver's seat in the truck's cab, have been impounded and appropriate action will be taken against the driver.

- 9600 grams of coffee "LAVAZZA crema e aroma" (96 packages per 1 kg), detected during control of a Macedonian passenger van, driven by a Macedonian national at the border crossing point Tabanovce Motorway, entrance section. The undeclared coffee, found in 16 cardboard packages, placed in the boot of the vehicle and covered with suitcases, bags and various bags, was impounded and misdemeanor proceedings will be initiated against the driver. 

- 20 cartons of Rothmans cigarettes with Macedonian excise stamps, detected in cooperation with the police officers at the border crossing point Blace, during a control of a Macedonian car, driven by a Macedonian national, declared for exit from the country. The undeclared cigarettes were concealed under the upholstery under the front passenger seat and in a passenger bag placed behind the front passenger seat. They were impounded and misdemeanor proceedings will be initiated against the driver.

Apparel and other textile products

- 282 pieces of textile products (clothing, carpets, bed linen and curtains) detected in 2 separate cases, in co-operation with the Ministry of Interior, during control of two Bulgarian registered cars, driven by Bulgarian nationals, performed at the regional road Novo Selo - Novo Konyarevo.

In the first case, 267 pieces of clothing and linen were found (T-shirts, children's tracksuits, shirts, sweaters, pants, dresses, leggings, socks, lingerie, pillows and covers), owned by three Bulgarian nationals, passengers in the car.

In the second case, 9 pieces of carpets of different dimensions were found, 1 set of bed linen and 5 pieces of curtains with driver's license, Bulgarian citizen.

In both cases, the products were handed over to the customs officers at the border crossing point Novo Selo and appropriate procedure will be initiated against the passengers.

- 83 pieces of women's clothing (dresses, trousers, blouses, jackets, sweaters, tights and shirts), detected during control of a Macedonian registered car, driven by a Macedonian national at the border crossing point Bogorodica, entrance section. The undeclared products, found in several suitcases and a backpack placed behind the front seats and in the boot of the vehicle, were seized and appropriate action will be taken against the driver.

Customs fraud

The customs officers at the border crossing point Novo Selo prevented an attempt for release of goods without completing the necessary customs formalities. At the border crossing exit section, a Moldovan truck arrived, driven by a Moldovan national and at the request of the customs officers presented documents indicating that the truck had entered the country at the border crossing point Deve Bair. According to the documents, the truck was loaded with 17,086 kg glass bottles, destined for an importer from Kavadarci. However the driver did not have a document confirming that the goods were import cleared.. After consulting Customs Office Kavadarci and the responsible of the importer, it was established that the goods had not been cleared and were received in the importer’s warehouse. Misdemeanor procedure has been initiated against the legal entity and the responsible person for the committed customs offense.

Parts for trucks and chainsaws

- 2 sets of brake pads, 1 fuel pump, 1 oil sensor and 1 MAN truck dosing module, detected by a mobile customs team, during control of a Macedonian registered car, driven by a Macedonian national at the border crossing point Deve Bair, entrance section. The undeclared products found in the boot of the vehicle and, in the spare tire area, were impounded and a request for initiation of offense proceedings will be submitted against the driver.

- 8 used STIHL motor chainsaws, detected by the Mobile Customs Teams, during control of a Bulgarian passenger van, driven by a Macedonian national at the border crossing point Tabanovce Motorway, entrance section. The undeclared chainsaws, found in two suitcases placed in the boot of the vehicle, were impounded and a request for misdemeanor proceedings will be filed against the driver.

Audio equipment

- 7 different used and new audio-technical devices (microphones, receivers for microphones and equalizers) and 3 light ramp joints, detected during control of a Macedonian registered car, driven by a Macedonian national at the Tabanovce Motorway border crossing entrance section. The undeclared goods, found in the spare tire area of the vehicle, were impounded and offense proceedings will be initiated against the driver.

Goods suspected of infringing intellectual property rights

- 30 sports backpacks and 66 pairs of men's underwear bearing logo of protected trademarks, found during a control of a Turkish registered truck, loaded with goods originating in Turkey, destined for a Kosovo-based company, declared for entrance in the country at the border crossing point Dojran. Due to suspicions of infringement of intellectual property rights, the products were detained and a procedure to establish their authenticity will be initiated, in accordance with legal regulations.

- 2 leather belts bearing the marks of a protected trademark, found during control of a DHL consignment from Bahrain, intended for a person from Ohrid. Due to suspicions of infringement of intellectual property rights, the products were detained and a procedure to establish their authenticity will be initiated in accordance with legal regulations.

Migrants

During control at the road from BCP Tabanovce Motorway to Kumanovo, a mobile customs team found three foreign nationals without identification documents, traveling on foot towards Kumanovo. They claimed to be Pakistani nationals and were handed over to officials from the Ministry of Interior.
