Over the past two weeks, the customs officers prevented several attempts for smuggling different goods, seizing tools, door parts, coffee machine parts, cosmetics, foreign currencies, school supplies, medical equipment, cigarettes, tobacco, counterfeits and more.

The following was seized:

Foreign currencies

- 21,700 USD, detected at the Skopje International Airport, during personal search and luggage control of two Chinese nationals who arrived by flight from Istanbul. During the personal search of one of the passengers, who stated that he was carrying 10,000 USD, the customs officers found USD 18,000 while in the suitcase of his travelling companion USD 25,400 and EUR 800 were found. Pursuant the law, 10,000 euros was returned to each passenger, as an amount that can be freely brought into the country, while $ 6,700 from the passenger and $ 15,000 from his companion were seized. Misdemeanor procedures were initiated against the perpetrators.

Cigarettes and tobacco

- 13 cartons of Winston Bllue and Muratti cigarettes and 1kg of Old Holborn smoking tobacco (4 packs of 250 grams), found during control of a Greek registered truck, driven by a Greek citizen at the border crossing point Dojran, entrance section. The undeclared cigarettes and tobacco, found in the cab under the co-driver's seat and behind the driver's seat were impounded and a request for initiation of misdemeanor procedure was submitted against the driver.

Medical apparatus

- 1 fetalmonitor BIONET FC 700, detected during inspection of a Macedonian registered bus, declared for entrance in the country at the border crossing point Tabanovce Motorway. The undeclared device, which is subject to license for import, was found in a cardboard box placed in the luggage compartment of the bus. It was seized and appropriate charges were brought against the owner of the device, a Macedonian national traveling on the bus.

Tool and parts for doors and coffee machines

- 428 different products (power tools, lamps, hydraulic jacks, children's pools, mobile chargers, batteries, clothing and more), 135 meters water hose and 140 meters extension cable, detected during control of a Bulgarian registered cargo van and boat trailer with Swedish license plates, driven by a Macedonian national, declared for entrance in the country at the border crossing point Tabanovce Motorway. The vehicle was loaded with various used goods and used boat with equipment for which transit documents were provided, but due to suspicion that the declared goods did not correspond to the weight of the goods in the vehicle, the customs officers carried out detailed inspection, finding the undeclared goods. The undeclared products have been impounded and appropriate charges were brought against the driver.

- 17 kg different coffee machine parts, 25 kg coffee machine cleaners and 7 tools and tool parts, detected in two separate cases by the Mobile Customs Teams.

In the first case, during control of a Macedonian bus that was traveling from Viterbo, Italy to Tetovo, arriving at the border crossing point Tabanovce Motorway, entrance section, the customs officers found 17 kg various parts for coffee machines and 25 kg of cleaning substance for coffee machines. The undeclared products were impounded and a request for initiation of misdemeanor proceedings will be lodged against the driver, a Macedonian national.

In the second case, police officers from EPOI-Alpha found 2 percussion drills, 2 drill hoses, 1 screwdriver, 1 crutch and one oil hose pistol, for which no import duties were paid. While patrolling the parking area below the Skopje train station, the police officers noticed two people carrying boxes from a Kosovo bus in a Macedonian car. During the interview of the bus driver - a Kosovo national, it was established that he transported the products through the border crossing point Blace without declaring them to Customs and without paying any import duties. The undeclared products were handed over to the Mobile Customs Teams, who seized them a request for misdemeanor charges was submitted against the driver.

- 300 pairs of metal door handles, found during control of a Macedonian truck, loaded with doors and door frames, destined for a Kumanovo based company, declared for entrance into the country at the border crossing point Bogorodica. The undeclared products were concealed in the compartments and behind the driver's seat in the driver's cab, as well as in the toolbox of the trailer. They were seized and appropriate procedure will be initiated against the driver, a Macedonian national.

School supplies

- 1,049 schoolbags, 1,272 pencil cases, 176,700 pens, 576 toy cars, 600 board chalk and 6 shopping trolleys, detected by the Mobile Customs Teams in cooperation with the Investigations Department inspectors during control of goods originating in China, destined for an importer from Tetovo, declared for import customs clearance at the Gevgelija Customs Office. The goods, which were not covered by the customs documents, were seized and a request for initiation of offense proceedings will be brought against the importer.

Clothing, handbags, footwear and cosmetics

- 246 pieces of clothing and 11 bags, detected in two separate cases by the Mobile Customs Teams during control of two Macedonian cars, driven by Macedonian national, at the Bogorodica border crossing entrance section.

In the first case, 161 pieces of textile products (women's and children's bathing suits and men's shorts) and 11 beach bags were found in four nylon bags in the boot.

In the second case, 85 pieces of clothing (dresses, blouses and trousers) were found under the front seats and in two bags placed in the boot.

In both cases, the undeclared products were impounded and the drivers will be charged with misdemeanor charges.

- 64 pieces of clothing (trousers, tracksuits, T-shirts and socks) and 3 pairs of trainers, detected during a control of a Macedonian car driven by a Macedonian citizen at the border crossing point Novo Selo, entrance section. The undeclared goods, found in the boot under the spare tire and in the travel bags wrapped in old clothes, under the back seat and in the door compartments, were seized and appropriate action will be taken against the driver.

- 17 bottles of eau de toilette L'Occitane Pivoine Flora and Bruno Banani, 9 L'Occitane creams and 19 powders Estée lauder, Clinique and Matchmaster, detected at Skopje International Airport, during control of luggage of a German citizen traveling from Nuremberg. The undeclared products were seized and misdemeanor proceedings will be initiated against the passenger.

Goods suspected of infringing intellectual property rights

- 340 cordless speakers, 200 headphones and 2,430 stickers bearing marks of protected trademark logo, detected by the Mobile Customs Teams in cooperation with customs inspectors of the Investigation Department, during control of different goods originating in China, destined for an importer from Skopje, declared for import customs clearance at the Gevgelija Customs Office. Due to suspicions that the products violate intellectual property rights, they were seized and, in accordance with the legislation, a procedure will be initiated to establish their authenticity.
